4410 Pre-School

We strengthen the abilities of each child in our classroom.

All classes are inclusive with identified special needs children and typical developing children learning together from one another.

What sets us apart is our excellent reputation for working with children for over 71 years. That includes 49 years of innovative pre-school programming.  All children in our classrooms benefit from the multidisciplinary team approach, interacting with speech/language, occupational and physical therapists in addition to special-education teachers and well-trained paraprofessionals— teams vested in each child’s success.

The curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate practices with emphasis on child-centered activities, and aligned with New York State standards.

Learning is presented through play. Our highly skilled team presents skill-building activities that are engaging, meaningful and fun.  Each classroom includes:

  • Dramatic play spaces.

  • Reading corners which promote literacy and the love of reading.

  • Spacious, hands-on learning centers for art, science, and math exploration.

  • Indoor and outdoor playground areas.

Come and see for yourself, call to schedule a visit.  Don’t forget to drive around back and see the awesome playground for yourself.

Classroom Teams

What does it mean to work with a multidisciplinary team?  The team consists of different professionals working closely to ensure that your child is mastering the goals and objectives built into his Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  This team can include: teachers, classroom aides, nurses, other therapists, school administration, physicians, specialists, orthotists and various vendors for durable equipment.

The teams meet throughout the week to plan and confer with one another.  The groups meet weekly as both clinical professionals and  pre-school classroom teams.  There is a lot of communication and coordination.

Our Gavras teams know their students well and meet individual needs effectively.  They diligently follow students IEP’s.  It is evident at annual reviews that teachers, therapists and parents have had clear communication regarding their child’s progress, needs and goals.

The teachers in the Gavras classrooms have credentials and experience.  They practice diverse teaching strategies that target the strengths and learning styles of each child, with or without an IEP.  This strategy creates a framework for teaching, learning and assessment.

The integrated classroom settings provide many peer learning experiences that our talented teachers intentionally create but naturally observe.

Our teachers and strategies are effective and your child will learn & grow in our program!
