The E. John Gavras Center Honored as a School of Excellence, by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET).
The E. John Gavras Center was recently honored as a School of Excellence, by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET). This marks the highest honor that a private special education school can receive.
The recognition as a NASET School of Excellence is bestowed on private special education schools that have met rigorous professional criteria and have demonstrated truly exceptional dedication, commitment and achievement in the field of special education.
Upon receiving the news, Bob Padula, E. John Gavras Center’s Community Liaison, remarked “As the only licensed, inclusive pre-school in Cayuga County, we take great pride in the work that our certified teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals and therapists do with our children each and every day. We have an unwavering belief in the potential of every person who comes through our doors.”
In addition to their pre-school the Gavras Center, which is celebrating their 70th anniversary this year, also offers Early Intervention, an Article 28 clinic and Day Hab for adults with intellectual disabilities.

The E. John Gavras Center Emergency Remote Instruction Plan.
The E. John Gavras Center operates special education programs. Therefore, the Agency will work with the local DOH and local school districts to provide special education services to students enrolled in the Special Class Integrated Setting (SCIS) program. It is critical that meaningful parental engagement occurs to ensure the understanding of how our programs will be provided to their child. Continual collaboration and communication between each school district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education/Committee on Special Education (CPSE/CSE) and the E. John Gavras Center will be critical to ensure each student’s needs are being met. Read more and download our plan in full.
