Make this house your home.
The individuals living in the E. John Gavras Center’s neighborhood homes enjoy their own living space. Each one has a room to which he or she can add personal touches. And just as in a family home the residents participate in chores, meal preparation, leisure and recreation activities. Most of all, they share each other’s company as they live independently while continually learning new skills and gaining life experiences.
Each resident has a specialized plan to meet his or her daily needs. The EJGC staff helps everyone with daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene and money management and assists them with health and safety needs to help them live as independently as possible. Each house plans outside activities for each individual as well as group activities. The individuals attend concerts, plays, movies, dances, sports and bingo games, take day trips and go shopping.
An Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA) is a certified home that provides room, board and individualized service options. The Gavras Center operates three such homes in the city of Auburn. They are all supervised by staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A registered nurse is also on call 24/7 days a week to meet the residents’ daily health needs.
The mission of the Residential Program is to teach life and independent living skills that enable individuals to maximize their independence and thereby enjoy a higher quality of self-sufficiency in the community and home settings.
To be eligible for one of our IRA homes please complete the application above and return it to the Gavras Center. The contact information is on the application form.
